Kung Hei Fat Choi Meaning

Saying “Kung hei fat choi” is not the same as saying happy Chinese New Year and if you’ve said it in the past, well, we said the same words and it is not the same.

Kung hei fat choi meaning is a wish for prosperity – ie you’re bestowing the wish that your recipient becomes wealthy in the year ahead.

How to say Happy Chinese New Year?

So you’ve been saying “Kung hei fat choi” all this time? And now, you really have to know how to say Happy Chinese New Year?

There are three main ways to say Happy Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year is “xin nian” (new year) “kuai le” (happy) in Mandarin, and it’s pronounced shin nee-an kwai le. If we translate it word by word to English it will be “New Year Happy.”

Second, you can also use a shorter version, which is “xin nian” (new year) “hao” (good), which is pronounced shin nee-an how.

A third greeting is “guo” (spend) “nian” (year) “hao” (good), which is pronounced gor nee-an how, and it’s great on the day or shortly after the new year.

What is a Dragon Dance during Chinese New Year?

Dragon Dance and Lion Dance are always interchanged.

The four-legged dancing creature is a lion, which is maneuvered by two dancers (one moves the head while the other moves the tail).

It has wiggling ears and blinking eyes and is the one that also goes around the streets and reaches for the angpao or red envelope hung at the door. It is usually led by a masked man with a fan.

A dragon has a longer body that is maneuvered by more dancers. It is guided by a man that holds a dragon ball.

CELEBRATING CHINESE NEW YEAR AT LIPA CITY

No Chinese New Year celebration would be complete without the entertaining Chinese Dragon Dance or a Lion Dance to chase away negative energies and bring in success for the new year. Chinese Dragon Dance is a tradition at SM City Lipa. To welcome the year with wealth and abundance, celebrate Chinese New Year.

Lipa City during this time enjoys a colder climate because of its high altitude with 1,225 ft above sea level which is next to Baguio and Tagaytay cities of Luzon.

Lipa is also famous for its thick noodle soup known as “Lomi”. Lomi of Lipa originated in 1968 from To Kim Eng from China who came to live in Lipa. Everywhere you go in Lipa, there will always be a Lomi store to eat.

There’s a lot to do on this day – Make a lantern, party hard, and enjoy the Chinese New Year like never before.
